The Dr. R.E.M Lee Hospital Foundation Board members take pride in making a difference together. Our board consists of 12 Directors, 2 Administrative Assistants and 2 Honorary Members. Each member is dedicated to continuing Dr. R.E.M Lee’s vision for better health care in the Northwest.

Ron Barlett , Director

Ron has been part of the Dr. REM Lee Hospital Foundation since 2010.  In 2003 he was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for Community Volunteering and it’s easy to see why.  He has contributed his talents and enthusiasm to a variety of societies:  Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department, Kermode Friendship Society, the Laxghelts Community Law Society, Rotary, Terrace Tourism Council, Northern Health Authority and most recently Director of Gingolx Development Corp.

A Commercial fisherman and Skipper of his own vessel, Ron enjoys the amazing wealth of natural beauty from the Pacific Ocean fjords and inlets to the lush cedar-covered mountains where he resides.  From 1999 to the present, Ron has also managed sales for CFNR Radio Network, and has been key in not only leading, but helping promote fundraising efforts of the Hospital Foundation.  The “Kitsumkalum Walk for Health” with Ron and his Terrace neighbours has been an event that the community and our sponsors look forward to each year.

Ron’s vision and commitment to strengthening Healthcare in Terrace and surrounding First Nations Communities, has helped make us a vibrant and hospitable northern town worth boasting about!

Linda Gingles, Director

Linda joined the Board in September 2022She is now retired from her long-standing career of 27 years in childcare and as a Special Education Assistant.  She also served as School librarian at Veritas in Terrace for 13 plus years.

Linda was a board member of the Terrace Skating Club for 14 years where she wore various hats. After resigning from the skating club when her daughter graduated and no longer skated with the club she felt she wanted to join a community board.

Geoff and Gayle Appleton informed Linda about the REM Lee Hospital Foundation and she found it was the right fit. Linda lives in Terrace with her husband Kelly. Their three daughters were raised here and still come home after their time away at university.

With the new hospital in progress this is an exciting time to be on this Board, helping our healthcare workers benefit from our fundraisers!

Heather Bellamy,
Administrative Assistant

As an English as a Second Language Instructor, Heather spent much of her working life overseas in Pakistan teaching Afghan refugees.  Heather’s journey eventually led her over the border into Afghanistan, where she participated in the re-building efforts, creating beautiful, income-generating Parks with women, children and the war-wounded. Heather saw firsthand the powerful healing impact of working together to create garden/Park spaces that provided joy to many.

Being part of the Dr. REM Lee Hospital Foundation, is a lot like gardening.  Instead of nurturing flowers, we are helping grow our community by supporting the healthcare providers at Mills Memorial Hospital and Terraceview Lodge. It’s an impact with lasting benefits!

Gayle Appleton,
Director

Gayle has been a Registered Nurse in the northwest for over 40 years and has enjoyed working with and supporting patients, clients and students in the acute care, community health and health education settings, until retirement in 2015.  Now in retirement, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoying the outdoor lifestyle the northwest has to offer. She has been a director since 2010, involved mostly with the equipment and finance committee. Because she is a member of the REM Lee Hospital Foundation, she is able to continue to support the enhancement of health care in our local area.

Geoff Appleton,
Director

During his time as an active member of the Mills Memorial Hospital medical staff  he was impressed by the efforts of the REM Lee Foundation in fundraising for hospital equipment not normally provided by the health authority/government.  After retirement, he felt he would like to use his background and experience to assist the Foundation in both decision making for equipment requests and explaining to community groups the needs and uses of the equipment being requested.

Cynthia Bohn, Treasurer

Keeping all our numbers straight and making sure your donations go to the designated equipment projects, Treasurer Cynthia Bohn is an invaluable part of the Hospital Foundation team. She puts heart and soul into not only serving her Kitsumkalum Community, but is committed to bringing the best of health services to Mills Memorial Hospital and Terraceview Lodge.

Chris Mallett, Chairman

Born and raised in Prince Rupert, Chris graduated from B.C.I.T. in 2003 with a degree in Computer Systems Technology majoring in Data Integration.  He started at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) in 2004 and held various advisor roles in personal and business banking.   In 2015 Chris moved to Kitimat and then to Terrace in 2017 as Branch Manager of RBC.  More recently he took on the role of Senior Investment Advisor at Lakelse Financial Group Inc. in May 2019.

Chris enjoys the volunteer opportunities with his membership in both the Terrace Rotary Club and the Kinsmen Club of Terrace.  For Chris, Terrace is a great place to live and work for its proximity to family and friends in Prince Rupert and the far better weather.

Craig’s wife moved here with him and they have 2-year- old twins that keep them very busy.
